The escalating rate of disabilities is causing businesses, policy makers and consumers alike to revisit social security in order for it to remain sustainable and affordable. These can be caused by number of factors which include age, accidents, lifestyle, diseases and other unforeseen circumstances. This increasing trend is not only happening in Malaysia but it is a cross-continental problem. The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) of Malaysia governs the Employment Injury Insurance Scheme and the Invalidity Pension Scheme and ever since the establishment of these schemes, the claims trend has been on an increasing rate. The speaker will be focusing on the mitigating factors behind these increasing trends from the SOCSO’s point of view.
